Gossamer Flame by kiki-doodle Gossamer Flame by kiki-doodle
I may have to change this up as the commissioner hasn't OKed the final color yet, but I'm really happy with it, so uploading it for now.

Anyway, this is a commission for :icondamurxac: of his girlfriend's shapeshifting character :iconveyska: (Yes, she's a lady. Yes, birds lack mammarys).
He didn't have an image ref, so I tried to match the written description as best as I could!

Hope you like! (and again, note me for any corrections!)

Wow, she looks amazing, the tail feathers are fanastic, the atomany is great and I love the colours. Dispite the red-orange of the character and the pink-magenta of the background it doesn't seem to clash. The pose is very fitting for a gijinkaed bird. I can't find anything wrong with this.

Thank you so much :3 This happened to be possibly the longest delayed commission ever (taking a set of 7 when I was busy was a poor decision), so I was very happy to hit the point where I could really draw something to impress the commissioner. I'm glad everyone else seems to liek it too!

Agreed, the tail is awesome! I like that while she is an anthro, looking at it from the head/wings up still makes me think it could be just an attacking bird. The feathers on the back of the legs make me really happy for some reason.

That is gorgeous! I love the tail, reminds me of the prehistoric birds.

My first thought was that's a wonderful archeopteryx, then I noticed in another reply that it is meant to look like one. So very good job there. I love the colouring and pose. Looks ready to take flight. An instant fave.

And I quote, "Prettyshiny!" (Though I've been assured that a more eloquent assessment will be coming, probably via note, at some point.) In the meantime, I think I shall second her assessment.

I like a lot this picture, the details on the feathers and the colours are very well done. The legs looks very human, but I like how you drew it. The anthros does not have to look exactly like an animal, and fits well with the cloths and the pose.

The only strange thing that i see is the fingers in the wings. The wings needs all the fingers to be "inside" the feathers in order to be consistents, so it looks a bit strange for me.

I based it on the hoatzin chick :)!

Since it was supposed to be archeopteryx inspired, that was a good modern day animal to base things on. The commissioner asked me to add a thumb, so that's why there's three "fingers".

Didn't knew about that bird, it looks very strange. The fingers are well drawn, and if the commissioner wants more fingers, then you have to add more :).

They are a very strange bird :D The only one that retains the claws on the wings (although, they only have their prominence when the birds are chicks)

I think this looks awesome! ^-^ The details in the face, the colours, and the pose all go together very well. However, in contrast to the rest of the image, the legs look a little smooth. Bird feet are often mostly scaly, so perhaps using a similar techique used for the neck texture on the legs would have worked. The background I feel could also have used a little work and I don't particuarly like the way that it sits on top of the wings.

Oh yeah, I agree with the legs. After I did this piece (I did the lineart forevver ago), I did mroe research into bird legs, and I love how scaly they are. I can pretend this one is a bit more human, but that's just cheating.

Yeah, the bg... it's just sort of ambient mist, because the commission was for painted character and no bg. Rather than a flat boring color fill, I always tend to see what I can do in 5 minutes.

Thanks!
