challenged me to draw something "digitaly using only solid colors. no blending shading" that expresses great pain, so this is what I came up with. The death of Selqura's father.
Selqura was only eight years old when she lost both of her parents, but the death of her father, right in front of her, had to be the worst. She probably would have been killed then, for naught but her bloodline, except that Lyserious had abandoned the black dragon's ranks and took Selqura away with him, giving her a chance to grow up.
This just seemed to be the scene that best expressed great pain that I could think of involving my actual characters. Characters die, characters face great toil, but I think that the witnessing of one's own loved one's death is the worst.
Now, the funny thing about all of this is that... Samudeli is the villain; he is the bad guy. When all the other characters are rejoicing, and everyone else is happy, there still are those who are greatly affected by the death. (so much that it twists her perspective of reality when she grows up). Selqura grows up to become my favorite villain; she deserves her own book.
very impressive work, this definitely hits the mark for the emotion, and it's kinda scary.
Great work on the style and the colors, really gives it an unusual and interesting look. Really like the details you put into this. Also amazing work on the poses and expressions.
And there's volumes yet to be said about Selqura and Lyserious alone. Body language with the two is some of the most evocative I've ever seen, especially with the former. It's not right. No one deserves this holocaust, don't you think?
This is perhaps the MOST FAVORITE thing I've ever seen you do. Pardon me if I attempt to borrow this style for my own sometime.
And thanks for the comment, too. YOur comments always make me feel more adequate.
I have to say, this is an excellent piece. I seriously suggest you try this style again, because the pop art effect is gorgeous. The one dragon's rainbow spikes kind of caught me off guard, though. (original reaction: Rainbow mohawks? WTF?)
